The wind was whipping across the beach, stirring the sea into a stampede of white stallions, raging against the golden sands. Kyra watched the horses stumble and fall fading away into nothing before rearing up and re-launching their fruitless attack. It was funny how the sea kept trying, it never gave up as it slammed against the beach, and Kyra loved to watch it.
Sunset Beach was probably her favorite place at Letterage. Of course normally it was filled with couples, but when the sky was cloudy and gray, she was normally the only one to come to the shores. Which was only an improvement on the picturesque scene.
The slim blonde was currently sat on the grainy sand, hugging her knees to her chest as she gazed out at the horizon. Her locks were displaced by the winds and slapped against her cheeks but Kyra didn't mind. Even if she did mind, it wasn't like there was anything she could do. You can't fight the wind afterall...

Miss Manning let the waves brush over her toes, the cold water teasing the edges of her feet. One hand rested in her Zip-up pocket, her delicate fingers stroked the cigarette case-she wasn't going to light one up, afterall she was attempting to follow the rules. Her other hand held onto a pair of lepoard print ballet pumps. Grace's jean's were rolled upto her knees, she didn't want to get them wet. She was wearing a brown t-shirt with a vintage pattern pressed into the soft cotton.
Grace brushed a stray lock of wavy hair from her face and let her eyes scan her surroundings. She soon spotted a girl sat by herself, hmm she seemed familiar from orientation Kay..Kylie..Kyra. A small smile appeared on her face as she watched the other blonde, she could go talk to her afterall it didn't mean they had to be friends. Gracie was in need of a couple of friends, who wanted to be stuck in a place like this without company?

Not exactly the perfect day for the beach really? But that was why Craig had decided to go their, the charcol clouds and on/off rain seemed to catch his attention more than anything that day. Mainly becuase he was hoping it would be some what empty, it seemed at Letterage it was exceedingly difficult to have some 'me' time. You know the time everyone had when you could just think, but sometimes not being able to think helped Craig. There were some things, he sure as hell didn't want to think about.
That orinetation assembly had been pointless in his eye's, what was the bloody point of having to listen to some old woman nattering on about expectations, rules and regulations. Had she forgotten who was attending this place or soemthing? So breaking away from dorm life of the guys trying to out do one another with 'bad-ass' stories, he walked down the beach. Craig wasn't really into that kind of stuff, mainly because he knew none of the guys had killed someone. That would shock them all, see they all thought he was quiet and wet. But boy were they wrong.
Dressed in a pair of knee length shorts, flip flops and an apple green shirt he took the short walk down to sunset beach, Craig was still yet to obtain a driver's license. Upon arriving on the beach itself, Craig took a moment to absorb his surroundings. The mix-match of colours in the sky and then the sea, nothing could be that. The greys, blues greens and teals washing into one another. COnstantly moving, never staying in one place very long. Exactly whaqt Craig wanted.
Walking across the beach, Craig looked over the beach for somewhere to sit. Perghaps company wouldn't be all that bad? The teen's crystal blue eyes settled on a girl he knew of, but had never actually chatted too. Her name being Kyra Valentine, why she was here was something he didn't know. And intended not to find out. Approaching her he flickered her a short smile. "Uhh...Mind if I join you?"

Kyra was mildly confused when a smile came from the direction of Grace. Pretty girls like Grace didn't smile at girls like Kyra. Life didn't work that way. It wasn't normal. Wasn't normal. Kyra almost laughed. There she went, judging the world on a High School scale, when that scale had been smashed and trampled underfoot. It didn't work like that, not anymore.
Kyra curved her lips in the barest glimpse of a smile, unwilling for company, especially if that company came with the daunting beauty of Grace Manning. Kyra may be the quite girl at Letterage, but she knew a lot more about her fellow students than most people thought. Besides, you only needed to look at girls like Grace and you started to feel inadequate.
However, any confusion she had felt earlier was known blown out of the park as a voice sounded to her left. Yes, somebody was actually speaking to her. Kyra turned and was amazed to see none other than Craig Whay standing on the sands. Now this was too weird for Kyra. She blinked, and let her gaze flicker between Grace and Craig, trying to figure out if they were planning something before deciding a lightning bolt of the un-normal had struck the beach.
"Umm... Okay. If you want."
She said quietly, shrugging her shoulders.

Grace saw Craig Whay head over to Kyra, ahh more company. Maybe this was a great time to meet new people, she was tired of being judged and just wanted to find some real friends. After a few deep breaths she made her way over to the two, it was hard to keep calm without a cigarette, but no way was she giving in to the huge craving she had. She ran a hand through her hair and looked at Kyra and Craig. "Can I join you?" Her voice was calm yet shaky, god not smoking was harder than it seemed.
Grace glanced between them, she chewed on her lip as she waited for an answer.Nervous Habit.

Craig could sense she was not exactly comfortable in his presence, he had a knack of that. Just because he'd been apart of the game for so long, and well, you just pick up habits of such similar to that one. "Cheers." He replied, before sitting down in the some what cool sand beside her. Craig was itching for a cigarette, but he was trying to get clean. Plus, he didn't want to spark in front of Kyra or Grace who had approached the pair.
Craig looked up at her, the usual broody expression he wore visible. The teenager wasn't one to smile too often, just stuck with the same tanned brooding face. He prefered it that way, even if it was what hs father did. Craig looked between Kyra and Grace, there seemed to be a lot of blondes at letterage.
"Uhh sure..." He replied looking up at her once more. Craig hadn't made heaps of friends, just enough to get by with. Craig never got particularly close to anyone except his sister, in fear of hurting them. To be quite honest Craig was a softy at heart. BUt was the last to admit it.

It seemed suprise was a good emotion for Kyra today. For now Grace had crossed the sand and stood before her, a smile on her face. Kyra blinked once more, unsure of what to do or say. However the matter was taken out of her hands as Craig answered the question Grace had offered up.
Kyra just kept her arms locked around her legs, resting her chin on her knees. She felt safer this way. Not that she felt paticularly threatened by either Craig or Grace. No, rather she was giving herself some from of moral support, trying to anchor her slight weight to the beach to stop herself from taking off across the sands.
Kyra wasn't a people person.
She offered up a curve of her lips that could be taken as a smile but it was breif, darting back as quickly as it arrived. Kyra sighed softly, un sure of what to say. What to do.
"I'm Kyra."
She said quietly, guessing an introduction was the best thing to say. It was a simple enough statement afterall.

Grace nodded in appreciation as Craig answered her question."Thanks."She flashed them both a smile and sat opposite them both, they were sat in sort of a triangle shape. She crossed her legs and looked at them both, her hands went back to her pockets were she clung onto the cigarette packet.
"Grace."She muttered, then she looked up."My name that is."Gracie was now really desperate she hadn't drunk or smoked or had any drugs for 2 days, the alcohol and the drugs were suprisingly easily but the tabacco had her."Okay I Know it's against the rule and all, but would either of you mind if I lit up a ciggy?"She bit her lip."I totally understand if you don't want me to."

Craig stared out to sea, dreamily as if he was a million miles away from them. Except he wasn't ay dreaming, fantsazising or anything of the sort. He was fully aware of his surroudnings, he just got lost in the moment sometimes. There were thins on his mind, that he chose to block out. Like his worries, or concerns. Ryleigh had been acting weird ever since they had arrived at Letterage, his mother and well he'd given up worrying about his father. He'd already disowned Craig as a son anyway.
"Craig." He said simply, not bothering to add anything else to his simple sentence. He knew both the girl's name's already and was pretty sure they knew his too, but it was an easy way to get the coversation going really. Craig smiled slightly at Grace's next sentence, like any of them were following the rules. "It dosn't bother me, how about you Kyra? Well as long as you share the good around that is!"

Kyra let her gaze travel between the pair, she knew them both but it seemed an introduction had been a good start. A good start that had gone to waste because what else was there to say? It wasn't as if they knew each other aside from faces and names.
However Grace spoke up again, and Kyra wasn't sure whether to be grateful or not. Normally she liked the quiet but it was awkward when there were others around.
"I don't smoke, but go right ahead."
She said, her tones soft and spoken at a volume just loud enough to be heard, but no louder. She didn't like making unnecessary noise. Though of course most viewed her opinions on noise as a little bizarre. Then again, they were the ones who partied. Kyra had had her taste of that life and she just wanted to rinse it out of her mouth. Vodka was good for that...

"Thanks."She smiled gratefully at them both and lit up a ciggy. They were only the crappy ones but who cared? It was tabacco wasn't it? She rolled her eyes at Craig."You're just lucky i'm a shary person."She pulled out another ciggy and tossed it to him along with her lighter."You sure Kyra? You're welcome to one."She took a long hard drag and smiled lightly."Now all we need is some booze."Grace looked at them both, god she really needed to control how she felt. She took another drag and watched the ash fall into the sand.
It was great to have finally given in to the craving, she suddenly felt relaxed. Grace would be able to have a proper conversation with the people opposite her, that was ofcourse that they wanted to talk in more than 3 word sentences.

So she dosn't smoke, that was quite odd in Craig's mind. For he thought that most of the students at Letterage did, well that was ust assuming really. MAybe she was clean and had got here for other reasons, like stealing or something. Although she really didn't seem the type to do that either. However Craig wasn't gonna bother asking her about it, that would proberly lead to questions he didn't want to anwer about himself.
Craig smiled at Grace and caught the lihter and cigarrette, then hesitated. Did he really need to? No, he didn't, if he wanted to get out of this place he had to play by the rules. However much it hurt. Craig handed the cigarette and lighter back to her. "You know what... I Can't believe Im doing this!" Craig laughed lightly, at least he could say he had been making an effort.
"I drink a little but not much, I was always the smoking kinda guy. But I guess Im not even that any more!" The teenager commented back, wondering how much the girls enjoyed their alcohole. One of his roomies was an Alcoholic and boy was it evident, he his booze everywhere. Drunk it like he would never get the chance again and was pretty much drunk 24/7. Quite scary really...

Kyra stiffened as the subject of alchohol was broached. She bit down on her lip and hugged her knee's that little bit tighter, as if trying to squeeze the desire out. Except ti didn't work like that. It never did.
Kyra blinked as Craig started talking about himself. Why did people do that? Spill things about their lives to people they hardly knew. Somebdoy said it was easier to confide in a stranger than a friend but that didn't make sense. Not to Kyra. Apparantly it worked becuase the stranger didn't know you or anyone else involved so it wouldn't matter what youy said because you'd proabably never see them again. But what happened if that stranger told somebody else, and your secret traveled around the world and came back and found you. That was the worst way information got around...
"I smoked once. Didn't like it."
Kyra said quietly, amazed at herself. However she covered her inner-amazement by shrugging her shoulders once more and looking away. Maybe Grace would step in and take any attention away, that would be good.

Grace watched in amazement as Craig pass her the lighter and ciggy back."Hmm Maybe I Should Take A Leaf Outta Your Book."She had only smoked half the cigarette but she let it slip into the sand and she burried it so the end wouldn't keep burning."No more smoking for me."
Okay, so this was slightly awkward. She then smiled lightly at Kyra."Ahh it's not everyone's scene."She played with some sand letting it fall through her fingers.Grace was going to be bold and ask why they were here."Okay, so it's none of my business but why are you both here?"She then realised that it wasn't really the best thing to say."Sorry."Her voice was quiet as she looked down at the little grains in her hand.

Craig nodded, understanding where she was coming from. He wasn't the type to turn around and say I can't talk to you, you don't have the guts to smoke. Craig was laid back, spoke freely and didn't really care others opinions of himself. He was just like that. Craig had already noticed two differences between the girls, Kyra was much more shy and secluded where as, Grace was much more open and talked freely.
"I kinda think it won't last long before I crack though!" He added grinning. What with the constant pressures of everything he was bound to need a light up once in a while, he'd reduce thing's... slowly enough.
Craig thought for a moment before replying, why had he come here? To get away from letterage. Quite honestly, the place scared the crap out of him. It made everything so much more real, he had made a real mess out of his life. And Craig was the only one who could really change that, sort everything out.Now that was a daunting fact indeed. "I guess..." He replied, "I just, wanted to get away from Letterage..."

Kyra looked up at Grace, her amber flecked eyes wide. She stared at the girl for a moment, the question had taken her by suprise. She shuffled backwards slightly, the movement hardly noticable but it was significant none the less. She was distancing herself, like she always did when people started asking questions.
Even if she did answer, what would she say? She was almost raped, pushed a guy off a roof and drank herself into a pit? Don't forget the fact she did take drugs and smoke, all though she only did it when she had to. When her sisters safety was at risk.
Her sister. That was what Kyra hated about being here at Letterage, she'd left Katrina alone with the repuation of having some drop-out as an older sister. Not to mention all the shit she'd be getting from the guys who had threatened her. Not the Kyra was a match for them, but at least she had served as a barrier. Now her sister was taking it alone/
"I don't think that's what she meant..."
Kyra said softly to Craig, her voice hardly above a whisper.

"Like I said It's None Of My Business."She shrugged."I was just wondering."Grace suddenley began to feel realy shaky, she should never of asked the question."What I mean was, what are you here for.Like well...I'm here because."She took a deep breath."I found out I was adopted and did some crazy shit because of it and lost somebody I loved and..."Grace suddenly shut up, why was she telling them this? "Umm, but I guess you don't want to know, and we don't know eachother so whatever...."She trailed off her voice getting quieter by the second.
Grace just wanted some friends and you couldn't be friend with people you knew nothing about, that was just...well...pointless.

Hearing the whisper Kyra gave him, made his cheeks flush slightly. What an idiot, of course that's what she meant. He smiled at Kyra thankfullying, not noticing she had failed to answer Grace's question. Staring down at the sand beneathe him he started to draw a pattern in the sand with his finger, then brush it away before looking up again.
How was he supposed to answer?Oh yea, got involved with the wrong people..killed a guy... not a big deal huh!. Nothing was as simple as that. Then he heard Grace stumbling her words out over one another, why was she telling them this? They'd known each other, what? 5, 10 minutes at most? Well, for all he knew it could be the start of a beautiful friendship.
"I, did some pretty dumb things. Got in with the wrong crowd, did some stuff and ended up here." His voice was considerably quieter as he spoke, and his eye sight stayed down the whole time. Not daring to make eye-contact with either girl.

Kyra wasn't sure what to do. Both Craig and Grace had supplied a reason for their attendence at Letterage, it would be clear if she remained quiet. However, she ahd no need to speak up. It wasn't as if she owed either Craig or Grace a story or explanation. She had no loyalty to them.
So she looked between the pair, chewing gently on her lip. No doubt the shrink would have a field day. He always did like to apply pressure untill she snapped. This would have been the perfect oppurtunity. Fortuantley she didn't see him anymore. Not untill she went home anyway.
"I...I don't like talking about it."
She said quietly, but honestly enough. She lifted her gaze, eyes wide as if challenging either of them to challenge her.

"Fair enough."Grace shrugged and smiled softly at both of them."So what do you think of it here?"She shrugged.
Grace shifted so she was now layed on her stomach, so what if the sand got all over her hoodie. She looked up at them both."Sorry for asking."
[Writers Block, seriously..sorry]
